The History of Carolina Therapy Associates:
Carolina Therapy Associates is a family owned therapy practice that has been serving children in the Triangle area for over 25 years. My mother, Colette Myers, started this company as a pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist in Durham county in 1995. When she retired in 2018 I started making plans to convert the company into a PLLC in order to expand the company into providing Occupational Therapy Services and branch into Wake County. At Carolina Therapy Associates we believe that therapy should be individualized, evidenced based, and client centered. But most of all it should be FUN and be embedded in the context of play, which is a child's primary occupation after all!
About Melanie Lee, MS, OTR/L:
Melanie has been working with the pediatric special needs population since graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2007. She has experience working with children from birth through adolescence in a variety of settings including schools, daycares, homes, and outpatient clinic settings. Melanie is certified in the Interactive Metronome and Therapeutic Listening programs and protocols. She has also had specialized training in Infant Massage, Sensory Integration, Wilbarger Deep Pressure and Proprioceptive Technique, Social Thinking, and Verbal Behavior Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. She has had experience working with children with a variety of feeding difficulties using medical, motor, behavioral, and sensory based approaches. Melanie is a certified handwriting specialist who loves working with children with handwriting delays through the use of the Handwriting Without Tears Program and the First Strokes Multisensory Approach to Handwriting. She enjoys working with all children with special needs, but has a special interest in working with children with developmental delays, fine and gross motor delays, handwriting difficulties, Down’s Syndrome, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Melanie lives in Wake County with her daughter and loves being outdoors, going to the beach, reading, baking, and crafting. She brings a sweet and loving approach to her work with children and loves helping children and their families reach their full potentials!
